Upgrade xperia Android software firmware (4.0.1.A.0.283)

Now that we’ve had some time to fully explore what the latest Android 2.3.4 firmware (4.0.1.A.0.283) brings to the 2011 range of Xperia handsets, we wanted to relay our findings to our readers. What you’ll find below is every new feature that the latest update brings to the table. It’s quite a meaty upgrade all in all and certainly leaves us with respect for the Sony Ericsson developers who are continuing to upgrade our devices with useful additions. Sony Ericsson is delivering on its promise of speedy updates, after learning some harsh lessons from its first Android adventure with the Xperia X10. If Sony Ericsson continues to deliver, we see no reason why the company’s market share should steadily climb, especially with some positive word-of-mouth. Anyway click through below for all of the new features you’ll find on Android 2.3.4.

Video Google Chat

This is probably the main feature when moving from stock Android 2.3.3 to Android 2.3.4. We cover this first as the rest of the inclusions are all Sony Ericsson rather than Google led. When clicking the ‘Talk’ app, you will now see a video camera (green if they are online) enabling you to conduct a video call with that person.

3D Panorama Camera

This is Sony Ericsson’s headline feature from the 4.0.1.A.0.283 firmware. Unfortunately it is not one that we could test fully as we don’t have a 3D television to see the results. However, this update not only introduces the 3D Panorama sweep but also a normal Panorama sweep (as  with the Xperia X10).

Screen capture

This is self explanatory, but kudos to Sony Ericsson for finally enabling a simple way of taking a screenshot on your phone. Holding down the power button, brings up the ‘Take screenshot’ option at the bottom. When taken you will find the screenshot in your picture gallery.

Back up

Xperia X10 users will remember that Sony Ericsson had a Backup and Restore application that was removed in the Gingerbread update. The 2011 series of Xperia devices have not had any backup solutions, until now. The new Back up functionality can be found in ‘Settings > Privacy’. When enabled this function allows you to backup application data, Wi-Fi passwords and other settings to the Google servers i.e. in the cloud. Besides this is an ‘Automatic restore’ facility that allows all app data to be automatically restored when reinstalled again.

New widgets

Analogue clock
You now have an extra analogue clock widget for you to decide between.

Timer
This timer widget is very cool. It is a countdown timer (rather than stop clock) but has some fantastic animation. One of our favourites.

What is missing?

CRT animation
The much loved CRT animation when locking/unlocking the display is now gone. What you get instead is a slow fade from bottom-up and top-down that is nowhere near as cool. We want our CRT animation back!
Power save mode
The Xperia ray has a new app called the Power save mode. If you want to know more, detail. We were hoping that this new app would make its way to other Xperia handsets, but it’s not happened in this update. Hopefully, it will appear in a future software update.

Small technology industry can help Canada's Immigration.

Immigration is once again hogging the headlines. Yet, as the Canadian government wages a high-profile campaign to weed out suspected war criminals in our midst, it’s also begun a quieter, more thoughtful consultation with Canadians to reform our current system for selecting new immigrants.
Canadian immigration is, indeed, at the crossroads, and this nationwide consultation is a golden opportunity to further open the doors to those who would make Canada a leader of the 21st-century economy.
Enter the high-tech immigrant entrepreneur.
The notion of the “Startup Visa” is gathering steam in the United States. Foreign-born entrepreneurs are behind more than half the start-ups in Silicon Valley alone. Hence the concerted effort by American businesses and opinion makers to make the U.S. a haven for enterprising techies, to kick-start exciting new business ventures and create jobs for Americans.
In Canada, our government has adopted a blinkered, short-sighted strategy in which immigrants are simply hands for hire to fill labour shortages, rather than vital players in building a new knowledge-driven economy.
The new “streamlined” process involves a fast track for people in certain fields. It’s a motley of professions from cook to cardiologist, with an emphasis on health professionals, technicians and engineers.
To the prospective immigrant, this list is highly misleading as fields such as dentistry and family medicine are impossible for immigrants to break into, thanks to the professional and accrediting bodies that act as overzealous gatekeepers and multiply the hurdles for foreign-trained professionals. Hence the all too common doctor-turned-cabdriver phenomenon in our cities.
There’s an immigrant entrepreneur program at Immigration Canada that’s now indefinitely suspended. This is a real shame, because this is the very channel through which we would get the best “recruits.”
Indeed, immigrant selection in Canada in the 21st century should be carried out by headhunters, not paper-pushers. We should have our immigration agents in Bangalore, Seoul and Moscow scour campuses and companies for promising new technology entrepreneurs.
Then imagine a panel of angel investors, chief technology officers, academics and entrepreneurs back in Canada judging the entrepreneur, his technology and his business idea. Most important, they would evaluate the idea’s potential to create jobs in Canada.

Android Phone Using WiFi, can Share Internet Connection of a PC

WiFi Ad-Hoc Networking is a popular method to share internet connection between  computers (pc or laptop) or between a computer and a smartphone that has built in WiFi. Unfortunately, this method of networking is not supported by Android since it was released until the time of this writting. One of the popular method to enable ad hoc mode on Android devices is by  changing a WiFi configuration file located on /system/etc directory called tiwlan.ini. But this method is specific to phone’s WiFi chipset and you need root access to change the file. The tiwlan.ini is a configuration file for Texas Instruments WiFi chipset (e.g HTC dream) so you will not find it on Samsung Spica that use Broadcom WiFi chipset.

Another alternative method is by using a software based virtual access point that using Windows 7’s Wireless Hosted Network technology. This method only runs on Windows 7 and hardware specific. Currently i found two best virtual access point softwares, Virtual Router and Connectify. They both operate in the same maner and very easy to use. I have tested both of them to share internet connection from my PC that used  Sierra Wireless USBConnect 881 modem for internet access and an external TP-Link TL-WN31G Wireless USB adapter with my Samsung Spica.

Here is the guide on how to use virtual router and connectify

On Windows 7 Box:

   -  Download and install Virtual Router or Connectify, you can try one of them. They are hardware specific so read the documentation on their websites about the supported WiFi devices.
   -  Fill in the settings panel with your prefered WiFi name, password and internet connection to share
    Virtual Router

                                                                      Virtual Router

                                                                             Connectify
    - Click start button to start sharing
    - On your Wireless Connection Status, click Details to get the network connection information, note the IPV4 Address

 On Android Device

    - Go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi Settings
    - Open Advance settings menu
    - Tick the Use static IP option
    - Enter your desired IP address (ex: 192.168.2.2)  into Ip Address field
    - Enter your IPV4 Address (ex. 192.168.2.1) into Gateway field
    - Enter 255.255.255.0 into Netmask field
    - Enter your internet connection’s DNS server (use ipconfig /all command to get DNS info) into DNS 1 and DNS 2. As an alternative, you can use Google Public DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

                                                             Wifi Static IP Setting

    - Connect to Wi-Fi using your password
    - Disable and Enable Wi-Fi (in case if it won’t connect)

                                                            Android Wi-Fi

Check the connection using browser or other application.

Iphone Security

Apple said it was working to resolve a security flaw in its iPhones and other products that could allow criminals to access confidential information or intercept telephone conversations, following a warning by German authorities, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

The security hole was present in several versions of Apple's iOS software on its iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch products, the German Federal Office for Information Security said Wednesday.

According to the agency, users are particularly vulnerable when they view Portable Document Format (PDF) files, which give cyber attackers a chance to infect the products with malicious software and gain administrative rights to the device.

Once infected, criminals could read confident information such as passwords, online-banking data, calendars, emails and other information, as well as intercept telephone conversations and the location of the user.

"Apple takes security very seriously, we're aware of this reported issue and developing a fix that will be available to customers in an upcoming software update," the company said in a statement.

An Apple spokeswoman did not say when the software update would be available, or whether Apple was aware of the security hole before Wednesday.

The German Federal Office for Information Security said it had not yet observed any attacks on Apple products, but warned that until the hole is closed, users should avoid opening PDFs from unknown sources and visit only trusted websites.

The agency found a similar security hole in Apple's software last year, which the firm quickly fixed.

Dell XPS 15z

As if Dell’s XPS 15 weren’t desirable enough already, it’s now joined by the sporty 15z. As well as upgraded internals, the whole design has received a bit of spit and polish to bring it up to luxury standards.
Dell has done a fantastic job sprucing up the curves of the 15in frame, with a lovely silver coating on the lid, a neat spiral-finished hinge cover and a muted grey inside. Add some neat flourishes, such as the large speaker grilles either side of the keyboard, and a silver trim around the edges, and you have a laptop that’s unusually stylish for its size. The Full HD screen makes it necessarily wide, but at only 26mm it’s not too thick either.

Iphone 4 vs android

So, since I haven’t carried an iPhone around with me for more than a week and I got an up and close look at the iPhone 4 today here’s my list of the pros and cons of iPhone 4 vs. the Sprint EVO or Verizon’s Incredible (the two best Android-based phones out there).

1. Screen quality. iPhone wins, but only slightly over the EVO.
2. Multitasking. All of them do it, but Apple’s system is a LOT easier to figure out and manage. That said, AT&T’s new data plan pricing has left a very bad taste in my mouth. I’m going to have to use the iPhone 4 for a month to see how much data I actually end up using now that I can do things like use Waze for traffic at the same time as playing music on Pandora, or watching live streaming videos from Ustream, etc. The iPhone should be miles ahead here, because of its superior OS, but is only slightly ahead because AT&T is dragging down the experience for me.
3. Battery life. HUGE win for the iPhone 4, which gives up to 40% longer talk times than the 3GS, which is already giving me at least 40% better battery life than the EVO.
4. Application choice and quality. A slight win for iPhone 4. Overall I like apps on the iPhone better and there definitely are more to choose from. 225,000 according to Steve Jobs today. But there are some apps on Android that are better. Google Voice and Google Maps are two of them, which are pretty dramatic. I keep getting complaints from developers about the Apple approval process, too.
5. Feel in pocket. iPhone 4 wins here. It’s thinner and since it’s glass on both sides more pocket compatible.
6. Voice quality. The EVO is a LOT better than the iPhone 3GS, but I wasn’t able to try it out today for a phone call, so we’ll need to wait until June 24th for that.
7. Sexiness. The iPhone 4 wins here big time.
8. Carriers. The iPhone 4 LOSES here big time. AT&T has dead zones where none exist on my routes around the San Francisco Bay Area on Sprint or Verizon.
9. Video and camera. The iPhone wins here by quite a bit. The focusing on the iPhone is better. The quality seems like it is better, but I’ll need to do a head-to-head after June 24th to really know that for sure. The video features are FAR superior on the iPhone, especially the new editing features. I will buy the iPhone for these features alone, so for a video geek like me these are a huge deal. My wife, though, uses the iPhone camera a lot more than I do (I have a pro camera, she doesn’t and she takes a lot of pictures of the kids), so it’ll be interesting to see what she does with this.
10. Video games. The iPhone is already ahead here by a long shot and with its new gyroscope we should see even more apps for the iPhone that are cool and now that Zynga is bringing its games to the iPhone Apple has widened its lead. Yeah, yeah, I’m sure all the haters will remind me it doesn’t play Flash games but, sorry, that train has left the station and isn’t coming back.
11. Tethering. The EVO lets you share your phone as a wifi hotspot and lets other devices use its data plan to get on the Internet. This is wildly cool and how I get my family’s iPads on the Internet when driving in the car. Apple didn’t say a thing about tethering today and I’m hearing rumors that the iPad won’t tether with the new iPhone. So, this is a major feature in the EVO camp. Plus, AT&T’s new data plan restrictions really bug me.
12. Synch and services. Here Android kicks Apple’s ass. The iPhone has to be physically plugged into a computer and connected to iPhone to synch it. With the EVO I never have connected it physically to a computer. I just entered my Gmail address and password and all my contacts, all of my calendar items, all of my email, and all of my applications just showed up. This is a MAJOR advantage to the Android system.

So, will I start using an iPhone again? Yes, but I have the luxury of being able to afford two devices and I’m definitely keeping the EVO if just for the tethering. If I could only afford one? I’d go with iPhone 4 over the EVO. Mostly because the OS is nicer to use (hard to explain all the ways this is so in a short post, so you’ll have to wait for a longer post after I get mine), the video features, and the battery life is dramatically better. But I totally understand why many of you will ignore those advantages because AT&T sucks so much. If voice quality is more important to you than all the toys, the nicer OS, or the video chat, then definitely go for the Sprint or the Verizon.

To the second part of this question. Does Nokia, MIcrosoft, or RIM have a chance to get into the game?

Well, let’s look at the strength’s of each company.

1. Nokia has a ton of market share in low-end markets. That still gives it a powerful voice brand to build off of. Will it matter in the high end game? I don’t think it will, but I’m sure I’ll have lots of Nokia employees telling me why it does.
2. Microsoft has the Xbox and their new phone is coming from the same team. Wired also explained how Microsoft’s Kin and a bunch of services give it a leg into the game. I don’t buy that horseradish, but I can see how many of you will.
3. RIM has the best keyboards and best integration with Microsoft Exchange (still). Corporate IT folks care about both of these. Even Mark Zuckerberg carries a Blackberry to do email on. Until Android matches the keyboard quality RIM is safe. The first Motorola Droid has a dreadful keyboard. Will the next one have a good enough keyboard to let RIM’ers switch? We’ll have to see.

Anyway, Apple is still on top of the mind share mountain and that’s a powerful place, indeed, to be. Look for Apple’s sales and profits to continue to go up. I’m buying three (one for Patrick, one for Maryam, and one for myself).

What do you think?

Google Nexus Prime Samsung Android Phone

Google Nexus Prime Samsung Android Phone – Toward the end of 2011, Google seems to be rolling back the newest generation of Nexus will reportedly also juxtaposed with the presence of generations of Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwiches new to the market

And as before, Google seems to still be holding the Samsung as its cooperation partners to bring back most new-generation successor to the Nexus, named Google Nexus Prime.
Speculation linked the presence of Google Nexus Prime mobile phone-based Android platform at Google‘s new, reportedly will be equipped with support for 720p resolution display and even Samsung calls “Super AMOLED HD“. In addition, the phone also will be supported by the OMAP4460 dual core processor.

This new handset is named Google Nexus Prime, and there most likely will also be marketed using the same name it seems. And unlike previous generations of phones that are only supported by a network of wireless carriers only at launch, the latest mobile phone Google Nexus Prime is reportedly going to be released by some wireless operators as well who have also reportedly expressed interest.

So far Google Nexus Prime is also rumored to be working closely with OEMs to release Android phone 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), which can be launched at the same time anyway.

When examined more closely, what does Google do with its new Google Nexus Prime mobile phone is more or less similar to the approach taken towards the release of Microsoft‘s new mobile phone that runs under the Windows platform Phone product where every time a new phone that will be released the moment it is also immediately updated as well OS flavors are available.

Until now, unfortunately there has been no confirmation of the Google Nexus Prime availability of time-related Android-based phone 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwiches by both parties this upcoming Google itself as well as Samsung.Google Nexus Prime

photovoltaic technologies and Environment

Use of solar energy release no CO2, SO2, or NO2 gases and don't contribute to global warming. Photovoltaic is now a proven technology which is inherently safe as opposed to some dangerous electricity generating technologies. Over its estimated life a photovoltaic module will produce much more electricity then used in it's production and a 100 W module will prevent the emission of over two tons of CO2. Photovoltaic systems make no noise and cause no pollution in operation. Solar energy is clean, silent, and freely available.
